My Date Insisted on Paying the Bill – I Wish I Hadn’t Let Him

When my best friend Mia set me up with Eric, I was skeptical — but he seemed like a total gentleman. On our first date, he brought roses, gave me a personalized keychain, paid for dinner, and charmed me all night. I thought I’d hit the jackpot. The next morning, expecting a sweet follow-up text, I opened his message — and froze. It was an invoice. Yes, an actual breakdown of “services” from our date: Bouquet = 1 hug,

Gift = 1 coffee date ,Dinner = guaranteed second date …and so on, all signed with a fake legal warning about “collections.” I sent it to Mia, who freaked. Her boyfriend Chris, Eric’s friend, was mortified and decided to clap back. He created a reverse invoice charging Eric for “wasting a gorgeous woman’s time” and “not being exposed to the entire internet.” It was glorious. Eric didn’t take it well. He ranted via text, and I blocked him with a thumbs-up emoji. Lesson learned: if a guy insists on paying, make sure he’s not planning to charge interest — emotionally or otherwise. (And yes, I kept the keychain. It’s the funniest souvenir I’ve ever owned.)
