A routine traffic stop in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 13, 2025, escalated into a deadly shooting at Richmond Road Baptist Church. After shooting a state trooper near Blue Grass Airport, the suspect fled, carjacked a vehicle, and drove to the church, where he opened fire.
Two women, Christina Combs, 34, and Beverly Gumm, 72, were killed. Two men were injured—one critically. The trooper is in stable condition.
The suspect, whose name has not been released, was shot and killed by police. Authorities believe he may have known people at the church.
The church community, described as close-knit, is mourning the victims. Christina leaves behind a husband and five children. Fundraisers have been launched for both victims.
Local and state leaders expressed condolences, and the investigation is ongoing.
