Two Women, Beverly Gumm and Christina Combs, Tragically Killed in Kentucky Church Shooting – Here’s What We Know

A routine traffic stop in Lexington, Kentucky, on July 13, 2025, quickly escalated into a deadly church shooting, leaving two women dead and several others injured.

The incident began near Blue Grass Airport when a state trooper stopped a vehicle flagged by a license plate reader. The trooper was shot by the suspect, who then fled, carjacked a vehicle, and drove about 15 miles to Richmond Road Baptist Church. There, the suspect opened fire, killing Christina Combs, 34, and Beverly Gumm, 72, and injuring two men.

The suspect was later shot and killed by responding officers. Officials suspect he had some connection to church members but gave no details. The trooper and the injured men remain in stable or critical condition.

The church, a close-knit community, was holding a service that was being live-streamed when the shooting occurred. Tributes poured in on social media from grieving family members and local leaders, while fundraisers were launched for the victims.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and other officials expressed condolences and praised first responders. The investigation is ongoing as the community mourns the tragedy.
