My Husband Left Me. And Now He’s Asking To Come Back Because He Has Cancer

A woman divorced her husband after he told her he was tired of seeing her “old face” and wanted someone younger. The split was messy—he tried to take her assets and left her with half his debts. Years later, she learned from their three adult children (ages 22–25) that he had advanced cancer and could no longer work or afford his home. They asked if he could move in with her during his final stage, but she refused, feeling offended they would even ask given his past treatment of her.

Her children argued that their father had nowhere else to go, saying they’d help care for him and cover some costs. She pointed out they all worked outside the home, meaning the burden would fall on her. Despite their insistence, she told them the decision was hers alone, and the answer remained no. They accused her of being heartless and letting bitterness cloud her judgment.

She reminded them she wasn’t stopping them from helping their father—they could arrange housing for him themselves. Soon after, her ex contacted her directly, asking her to “leave the past behind” for his last days, but she found it ironic he hadn’t asked the younger women he’d chosen over her.

Online, people overwhelmingly sided with her, saying she owed him nothing after his cruelty and the contentious divorce. Commenters urged her kids to take responsibility if they wanted to care for their father, rent a place together, or find hospice care—making it clear it was unfair to pressure her into sacrificing her home, time, and peace for the man who had discarded her.
