Designer Will Breaux turned his long-time dream into reality by building a three-story home entirely out of shipping containers. Located on McGowen Street in Houston, the 2,500-square-foot residence is made from 11 stacked containers and even features a rooftop deck. Its bold, industrial design has caught the eye of neighbors and architecture enthusiasts alike.
Breaux had envisioned a custom-built, unconventional home since the early 2000s. However, finding a designer who shared his vision proved nearly impossible. Most professionals dismissed his ideas, leaving him frustrated and searching for a way to bring his dream to life on his own terms.
Determined, Breaux dove into researching container homes and studying other projects for inspiration. He initially worked with a design team but was dissatisfied with their proposals. Taking a bold step, he decided to fire the team and take full control of the project, teaching himself both the creative and technical aspects of working with shipping containers.
By 2011, Breaux had fully committed to designing and overseeing the build himself. Years of persistence and learning paid off, resulting in a modern, functional, and stylish home that blends industrial strength with everyday comfort. Today, his container home stands as a powerful example of creativity, determination, and the courage to challenge traditional building methods.
