When Julia refuses to pay her new neighbor Linda $2,000 for a thorn-in-the-paw vet bill, a petty dispute explodes into harassment—trash cans toppled, drive-by insults, and finally paint splattered across Julia’s windows while her husband is hospitalized and her young son watches in fear. Pushed past her limit, Julia plots revenge, secretly burying Japanese beetle lures in Linda’s immaculate flower beds and watching the garden wither.
But when Linda storms over to confront her and sees Julia comforting her tearful son about his dad’s health, the fury drains out of both of them. Shame replaces spite; the feud fizzles into a fragile ceasefire. They don’t become friends, but the paint, the beetles, and the bills give way to something quieter: two worn-down neighbors choosing restraint, and a rough kind of mutual respect.
