On June 24, 2025, 11-year-old Jordan Roe, known as the “protector” of her family, went to Star Lake with her cousins, 8-year-old Laila and 9-year-old Brylee, for a fun day of swimming, tubing, and sunshine.
While tubing behind a jet ski, the watercraft suddenly went out of control and struck a dock, throwing the children into the water. Jordan was tragically killed, while Laila was critically injured and rushed to the hospital for multiple surgeries. Brylee suffered only minor injuries.
The family later learned that Jordan sacrificed herself to shield her cousins, saving Laila’s life. “She always made sure others were safe first,” her grieving aunt shared.
Jordan’s passing deeply affected her family. Laila’s mother, Kristine Robinson, was home caring for her newborn when she got the devastating call. Now, she is raising awareness about water safety, urging parents to be extra cautious.
Jordan had dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. Even in death, her kindness lived on — she became an organ donor, saving more lives.
Two GoFundMe campaigns have been set up to help cover Jordan’s funeral costs and Laila’s medical expenses.
Star Lake residents remain shocked. “Star Lake is usually so peaceful. You don’t expect something like this here,” said longtime resident Steven Gabbard.
Jordan’s selfless legacy continues through the lives she saved and the cousin she protected that day.
