About a year ago, my MIL suggested that my husband and I move in with her. Rent was draining us, and she said it would be \u201csmart\u201d to save money at her place while we prepared for the next stage of life. It wasn\u2019t exactly ideal, but we agreed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fast-forward to last week: I find out I\u2019m pregnant. Nervous but thrilled, we sit down with her to share the news, expecting excitement. Instead, she folds her arms, looks me dead in the eye, and says, \u201cI don\u2019t want to raise another child under my roof. You can\u2019t stay here anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was floored. It felt like the ground had been pulled out from under me. Embarrassed, blindsided, heartbroken\u2014we packed our things and spent the night at friends\u2019 house, who, thankfully, were incredibly supportive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A week later, she calls me out of nowhere, sobbing. \u201cI\u2019m sorry, I panicked,\u201d she said. And suddenly I didn\u2019t know what to feel anymore\u2014anger, confusion, maybe both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But here\u2019s the kicker: the very next day we stopped by to grab the rest of our stuff. When I walked into our old bedroom, I froze. There were brand-new suitcases, neatly stacked, and clothes that weren\u2019t ours. Turns out, she\u2019d already rented out our room to strangers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So now I can\u2019t shake the thought\u2014was this ever really about \u201cpanic,\u201d or was the whole pregnancy thing just an excuse to push us out and cash in?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
