Recently, I had an experience that really made me believe in karma.
I came out of a store one sunny afternoon and froze. There he was\u2014my husband\u2014laughing with a young, very pregnant woman. His mistress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My heart shattered on the spot. I confronted him, words flying like daggers. We argued in the middle of the sidewalk until I couldn\u2019t take it anymore. Tears blurred my vision as I turned and hailed a cab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s when things got interesting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The cab driver glanced at me through the mirror and asked, \u201cThat awful guy your husband?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I sniffled, \u201cYeah\u2026 unfortunately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He gave me a sly grin. \u201cWanna hear a brilliant plan for revenge?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I hesitated, then nodded. \u201cI\u2019m ready for anything to teach him and his chicken a lesson.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver chuckled. \u201cPerfect. Here\u2019s what you do: when their baby is born, you should take a stick and\u2014\u201d He paused for dramatic effect. \u201c\u2014draw a line in the sand, because that\u2019s the day karma will start doing its work for you.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I frowned. \u201cThat\u2019s it? No dramatic revenge?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He smiled knowingly. \u201cTrust me, lady. You don\u2019t have to get your hands dirty. People who betray love\u2026 life gets them back in ways no one can plan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I didn\u2019t believe him at first. But three months later, I found out my husband\u2019s new girlfriend had left him\u2014turns out the baby wasn\u2019t even his.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That\u2019s when I finally smiled.
The cab driver was right.
