Do I have a story for you… This happened on a flight last week. My friend and I booked seats on the same row. I had the aisle and she had the window.<\/strong> We did this on purpose because we both like our own space. She likes to curl up against the window, I like having my leg room on the aisle, and neither of us cares about being right next to each other the whole time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We get on the plane, stow our bags, and walk to our row. Of course, there\u2019s already someone sitting in the middle seat. Fine, that\u2019s their assigned seat, no problem. But the moment they see us heading toward them, they frown. I say, \u201cHi, that\u2019s me on the aisle,\u201d and my friend says she\u2019s at the window. The guy looks back and forth between us and goes, \u201cOh, since you\u2019re together, do you want me to swap so you can sit next to each other?\u201d We both politely say, \u201cNo, we\u2019re good, thanks.\u201d He stares for a second like we just insulted him.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u00a0sit down, buckle\u00a0in, and get comfortable. A\u00a0few minutes later, I\u00a0pass my\u00a0friend her headphones over his lap. That\u2019s it. Just a\u00a0quick handover. The guy huffs loudly, jerks his head toward\u00a0me, and says, \u201cIf\u00a0you two are going to\u00a0be\u00a0doing this the whole flight, maybe you should\u2019ve booked seats together.<\/strong>\u201d I\u00a0tell him calmly, \u201cActually, we\u2019re fine. We\u2019re just passing something over, and we\u2019ll mostly keep to\u00a0ourselves.\u201d My\u00a0friend adds, \u201cYeah, we\u00a0don\u2019t really talk much when we\u00a0fly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019d think that would be the end of it, but no. The guy spends the next couple of hours muttering under his breath about how \u201cinconsiderate\u201d people are, sighing dramatically every time one of us so much as adjusts in our seats. At one point, when the drinks came around, he made a point of taking forever with his order<\/strong>, holding up the line, then spilling a few drops of ginger ale onto my tray table \u201cby accident.\u201d He smirked the whole time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We ignored him for the rest of the flight, but I couldn\u2019t believe how pressed he was that two people dared to sit apart on purpose<\/strong>. Some people really just can\u2019t stand the idea that not everything revolves around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
