Out of nowhere, one of my female coworkers looked at me, scrunched her face, and said, <strong>&#8220;Eww, put your glasses back on; you look better that way,&#8221;<\/strong> followed by a little laugh like it was the funniest thing she\u2019d ever said. Everyone around us heard it, and the room got awkwardly quiet. I just blinked at her, trying to decide if she was joking or just\u2026 rude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Normally, I let comments slide. But this time, something in me clicked. If the roles were reversed, I\u2019d probably be written up, and we all know it. So I smiled, leaned forward, and said, <strong>&#8220;Wow, good thing I only asked for your opinion on my eyewear and not on my face.&#8221;<\/strong> The room erupted into those muffled \u201ctrying not to get involved but this is funny\u201d laughs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She looked stunned \u2014 like she didn\u2019t expect me to clap back. Then she mumbled something about <em>just joking<\/em> and walked away. The energy shift was immediate. A couple of my coworkers even gave me quiet nods of approval like, <em>finally, someone said it.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, one of my buddies said, \u201cMan, glad you said something. She always thinks she can joke about people but can\u2019t handle it back.\u201d Honestly, it wasn\u2019t even about being petty \u2014 it was about reminding people that jokes should actually be funny, not insulting.
