My boss called me in and said, \u201cBefore I approve this, I need to know exactly why you\u2019re taking time off.\u201d
I told him it was personal. He said, \u201cPersonal isn\u2019t a reason.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So I reported it to HR \u2014 not to stir trouble, just to clarify if I really needed to \u201cjustify\u201d my time off. They confirmed: I didn\u2019t. PTO is PTO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I figured it was done.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then HR forwarded me an email \u2014 from my boss \u2014 claiming I showed \u201cinsubordination\u201d and was \u201cemotionally unstable and avoiding transparency.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He tried to flip the situation. Suddenly I was being assessed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I defended myself. I showed the initial policy screenshots HR had sent me. HR said they\u2019d \u201clook into it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two weeks later, I got an email:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour PTO is approved. Please coordinate coverage with your team.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No apology. No resolution. My boss still cc\u2019s HR on every email he sends me. He hasn\u2019t spoken to me directly since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u2019s not fired. I\u2019m not vindicated.
