My DIL posted a few photos online from our recent family trip. I wasn\u2019t in any of them, even though I knew I had been right there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When I asked her about it, she admitted she\u2019d used her phone\u2019s editor to \u201ccrop\u201d me out \u2014 or even replace me with parts of the background. \u201cThis post is just for family,\u201d she explained. I just smiled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The next morning, I dropped by and handed her an envelope. She froze as she opened it. Inside was a receipt from the professional photographer I had hired for our next family event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I looked her straight in the eye and said, \u201cI booked someone for the next trip. This time, you don\u2019t have to worry about who should or shouldn\u2019t be in the photos, as you won\u2019t be in charge of the pictures.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She blinked, unsure whether I was joking. I wasn\u2019t. I\u2019d already arranged for a photographer to capture everything \u2014 no edits, no filters, just genuine family moments with everyone included.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The message hit its mark. She understood that I no longer trusted her to tell the story. When my son found out, he wasn\u2019t pleased. He said I\u2019d gone too far \u2014 that I\u2019d embarrassed her and made things uncomfortable for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now I can\u2019t stop thinking about it. Maybe he\u2019s right. Maybe I overreacted. All I really wanted was to feel seen, to be part of the family like everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
