We were on the plane when my daughter whispered, \u201cDad, I think my period started!\u201d I handed her the emergency pad I always carry, and she rushed to the bathroom. Five minutes later, the flight attendant came over and said,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSir, your daughter needs you.\u201d My heart skipped. I hurried down the narrow aisle, bracing myself for the worst. When I reached the lavatory, the attendant gently pushed the door open. My daughter stood there pale, her hands shaking.\u201cIt\u2019s okay,\u201d I said softly, stepping inside. \u201cYou\u2019re safe.\u201d Her eyes welled with tears. \u201cDad, I leaked on my pants. Everyone will see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201d I took off my jacket without hesitation and tied it around her waist. \u201cProblem solved. No one will notice.\u201d She sniffled, trying to smile, but her voice wavered. \u201cYou always know what to do.\u201dThe flight attendant handed her a small bag with an extra pad and some tissues. \u201cYou\u2019re not alone, sweetheart,\u201d she said warmly. \u201cHappens to lots of girls. You\u2019ll be just fine.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Back at our seats, my daughter leaned her head on my shoulder. The fear in her eyes had softened into relief. I realized then that this moment, awkward and messy as it was, had become something beautiful. She knew she could count on me \u2014 and that was all that mattered. \u201cThanks, Dad,\u201d she whispered as she closed her eyes.
