His father, Oli, a community nurse, has since spoken publicly about the misconception that melanoma only affects older people or those with obvious sun damage, stressing that it can also have genetic links and appear in unexpected ways. In Rhys\u2019 final weeks, his condition also affected his brain, altering his behavior and adding further distress to an already heartbreaking situation.
