When I married Adam, I believed his mom and I would get along. She was sweet while we were dating\u2014bringing cookies and complimenting my cooking. But after the wedding, things changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She began visiting constantly, making little comments:
\u201cYou\u2019re not going to make him eat leftovers, are you?\u201d
Or, \u201cThe bathroom mirror looks smudged. Want me to show you a better cleaning spray?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I laughed it off\u2014until she moved in for a few nights during her house renovation. From the moment she arrived, she acted like our home was hers. Dishes everywhere. Demands for breakfast by 9. Criticism about everything, from dirty windows to my cooking\u2014without a single \u201cplease\u201d or offer to help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then came the breaking point: one morning, she rang a little bell and said, \u201cCould you heat up my tea, dear?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What hurt most wasn\u2019t the chores\u2014it was how she treated me, like I wasn\u2019t good enough for her son. The final straw came when I overheard her on the phone:
\u201cI don\u2019t know what Adam sees in her. She\u2019s not wife material. I have to keep this place running.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That night, I told Adam everything. I expected excuses\u2014but instead, he calmly told her:
