Liza thought the birth of her daughter, Evelyn, would be the happiest moment of her life, but everything changed when her husband, Ben, suddenly rejected their newborn. “This isn’t the baby I wanted!” he exclaimed, leaving Liza confused and heartbroken. His mother, Diane, stood beside him, calling the situation a disappointment, while neither would explain what was wrong. Before Liza could understand what was happening, Ben announced that he wanted a divorce and ordered her not to return home after leaving the hospital. The nurses had confirmed that Evelyn was healthy, making his reaction even more bewildering. When Liza arrived at her house with her parents, she discovered bags of her belongings dumped outside and found that her key no longer worked. Devastated, she took her daughter to her parents’ home, determined to find out why the man who had once dreamed of becoming a father had suddenly turned against them.

The following morning, Ben returned with Diane, looking exhausted and desperate to speak. He fell to his knees and finally revealed a secret he had hidden throughout their eight-year marriage: he had an 18-year-old daughter named Claire. When Ben was 20, he had abandoned Claire after her birth, with Diane helping him avoid responsibility. Even more painfully, Claire had contacted him four years earlier, asking to meet her father, but he rejected her. Liza realized that seeing Evelyn had reminded Ben of the daughter he had left behind, and instead of facing his past, he had punished his wife and newborn. Diane defended her actions by claiming she had protected her son, but Liza refused to accept that excuse. She sought advice about separation, finances, and arrangements for Evelyn, while Ben finally contacted Claire and apologized without demanding forgiveness. Although he began visiting his newborn and later asked Liza to take him back, she made it clear that regret could not erase his choices. She still loved him, but she would no longer let him decide her future. With Evelyn resting beside her, Liza understood that the next chapter of her life would be guided by her own decisions, not by the secrets or fears of the people who had hurt her.
