My Husband Refuses to Shower More Than Once a Week, It’s Gross

A woman shared her struggle about her husband’s hygiene. Married for over a year, she noticed that he only showers once a week, usually on weekends, despite working five days of physical labor. At first, she tried dropping hints, but he brushed them off. Even during her pregnancy, when she asked him to shower more often for their baby’s health, he seemed to agree—but later admitted he never actually changed his routine.

As time passed, his lack of hygiene began to bother her more. While he used to change clothes daily and not smell much, his new physically demanding job made things worse. Now he came home sweaty, skipped showers, and even carried their newborn without washing. She was left cringing and worried about the possible health risks to their baby.

Eventually, the situation boiled over. One night, she confronted him after noticing visible dirt and flakes of dead skin on his shirt and back. She snapped, calling him gross, which shocked him. Later, he revealed his strange reasoning: he believed showering too often would “wash off his manliness.” This left her even more baffled and frustrated.

Now, she’s trying to set firm boundaries, insisting on at least three showers a week for health reasons. But he still shrugs her off, claiming exhaustion after work. She wonders if she’s asking too much, but deep down knows that basic hygiene is essential—not just for her comfort but for their baby’s wellbeing too.
