My Date Insisted on Paying the Bill – I Wish I Hadn’t Let Him

When Eric insisted on paying for our first date, I thought he was a true gentleman — roses, a thoughtful gift, and great conversation. But the next morning, he sent me an invoice for the date, listing every “service” he’d provided and what I supposedly owed him: a hug for the roses, a selfie for opening my door, a second date for dinner. At the bottom, it even said “payment expected in full — or Chris will hear about it.”

I sent it to my friend Mia, who’d set us up, and her boyfriend Chris made a hilarious “invoice” back to Eric charging him for wasting my time. Eric blew up, claiming I’d missed out on a “great guy.” I just sent a thumbs-up and blocked him.

Lesson learned: if a man insists on paying, make sure he’s not planning to bill you later.
