Güstrow – The region of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is in deep shock as officials have confirmed that eight-year-old Fabian L. from Güstrow lost his life under tragic circumstances. According to the public prosecutor’s office in Rostock, results from the autopsy indicate that his death was not accidental.
Fabian had been missing since the previous Friday, after failing to return home as planned. A large-scale search effort involving police, firefighters, rescue teams, and hundreds of volunteers followed. Drones, sniffer dogs, and posters were used across the area, bringing brief hope when search dogs reacted near a lake, though nothing was found at the time.
On Tuesday morning, a passerby discovered a child’s body in a field near Klein Upahl, around 15 kilometers from Fabian’s home. Authorities believe it is Fabian, though DNA confirmation is expected. Investigators are analyzing traces from the scene but are currently withholding further details to protect the integrity of the investigation.
The city of Güstrow is mourning deeply, with candles, flowers, and soft toys placed outside St. Mary’s Church in memory of Fabian. While the investigation continues at full speed, the community stands together in sorrow, hoping for clarity and justice in the coming days.
