I Saw a Child on the School Bus Hitting the Back Window and Yelling for Help

I was driving home in the rain, lost in thought after losing both my fiancé and my job within the same week. My phone buzzed with Mom’s calls, but I couldn’t bring myself to tell her the truth yet. That’s when I noticed a little girl on a school bus, pounding on the back window, her face filled with fear.

I chased the bus, cut it off, and ran inside. The girl, Chelsea, was gasping for air—she was having an asthma attack, and her inhaler was missing. After searching desperately, I found it hidden in another student’s backpack. Once she used it, her breathing steadied, and she whispered, “Thank you.”

I rode with her until she reached home. Her parents were shocked and grateful. Later, her mother drove me back to my car and, upon learning I’d lost my job, offered me an interview at their family business.

What began as the worst day of my life ended with hope, reminding me that when one door closes, another truly does open—sometimes in ways you least expect.
