I Paid an Extra $100 for Comfort Due, But an Elderly Couple Took My Seat

I refused to switch airplane seats with an elderly couple, and I’m still thinking about it.I wanted to share a strange experience from a recent 12-hour flight. I had paid an extra $100 for an extra legroom seat—being 6’3″, I really needed the space.

Before takeoff, an elderly couple approached and asked if I would switch seats with them. They had regular seats much further back. I politely declined. But when I got to my assigned seat, I was shocked to find them already sitting there. I showed them my ticket and even pointed to the seat screen showing my name. Still, they insisted I take their cramped seats 10 rows back and began raising their voices.

A flight attendant came over, and they complained to her. But after she verified my seat assignment, she asked them to return to their original seats.I felt relieved, but afterward, I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe I’d been unkind. I’d really like to hear your thoughts—was I wrong not to switch?
