Becoming parents was supposed to be the happiest chapter of Adam and Joleen’s life. After struggling to conceive and going through serious medical treatments, they finally welcomed their long-awaited baby boy. Adam always believed Joleen would be an amazing mother — and she was. But once their son arrived, instead of feeling united, everything between them changed.
Parenthood hit hard. Adam admits he didn’t fully step up, and Joleen constantly felt unsupported and overwhelmed. She expected him to participate without needing instructions, while he felt lost and frustrated. Arguments became constant, tension grew, and exhaustion ruled their home. In one heated moment, Adam told Joleen her life would be harder without him — only to be stunned when she calmly said she was done and filed for divorce.
Now, they share 50/50 custody of their son. Adam quickly learned how difficult single parenting truly is. During the weeks he has his child, he struggles to function, do chores, and balance life. He imagined Joleen would be struggling too, maybe enough for them to try again. But instead, she told him she feels lighter, happier, and more organized without him — that caring for one adult and a baby is easier than caring for him and the baby.
Adam regrets everything — the fights, the lack of support, and especially his words. He never expected to lose both his marriage and the woman he loved to parenthood. Now he realizes the life he said would be a “nightmare” without him is actually better for her, while he’s the one overwhelmed and heartbroken. His story is a painful reminder that parenting should be teamwork — and taking your partner for granted can cost more than you ever thought.
