A student Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church in Minneapolis turned tragic on August 27, 2025, when gunfire broke out, leaving two children dead and 17 others injured. Authorities say 14 of the injured were children, with two still in critical condition.
Police identified the suspect as Robin Westman, a local woman in her early 20s, who is believed to be deceased. Investigators discovered videos, troubling writings, and a handwritten manifesto that revealed years of emotional struggles.
Witnesses described the chaos inside the church. Fifth-grader Weston Halse recalled hiding under a pew as his friend shielded him. Parents arriving at the scene shared their relief and heartbreak as they searched for their children.
“This school was prepared, and I’m grateful,” said Carla Maldonado, whose children survived. “But it’s heartbreaking that this happens at all.”
President Donald Trump called for prayers for the victims and ordered all U.S. flags to fly at half-staff until August 31. The community continues to grieve while finding strength in unity and faith.
