Supermodel and grandmother Maye Musk recently turned heads at Heidi Klum’s Halloween party in New York, dressed as Cruella de Vil. But beneath the glamorous costume, she shared a surprising personal detail about her visits to see her son, Elon Musk. Despite his billionaire status, she revealed that she often sleeps in a garage rather than stay in a hotel just to be close to her family.
Maye explained that holidays like Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s are always reserved for family time, especially to see her many grandchildren — Elon has 14 children. She recounted staying in a tiny garage at SpaceX instead of a hotel 45 minutes away because she valued spending every moment with her family. This wasn’t new for her — even in the past, she slept in garages and on couches when space was limited.
The supportive mother has long been by Elon’s side, even appearing with him on “Saturday Night Live” in 2021. Before modeling became her full-time career, Maye spent decades working as a nutritionist and has always admired Elon’s intelligence, calling him a “genius” since he was three. She credited her younger son, Kimbal, for helping Elon start his career when they built their first company, Zip2, together.
Despite once discouraging Elon from pursuing electric cars and rockets, Maye remains fiercely protective and proud of her children. She has defended Elon publicly during controversies and continues to stand by him, even joking she’d go to Mars if asked. Through it all, she keeps her priorities clear — family comes first, luxury second.
