Lip reader reveals what Erika Kirk said to JD Vance during viral hug that fuelled major debate

Erika Kirk, the new CEO of Turning Point USA, made an emotional public appearance at the University of Mississippi, honoring her late husband Charlie Kirk, who was tragically assassinated in September. During her speech, Erika reflected on her grief and her decision to continue his work, saying she felt her husband urging her to “reclaim that territory” and continue the mission they shared.

As she introduced Vice President JD Vance, Erika praised him for qualities that reminded her of her late husband. When Vance walked on stage, the two shared a long and intense hug that quickly drew attention online. Critics pointed to the placement of Vance’s hands and Erika’s gesture of touching his hair, calling the moment “inappropriate.”

However, experts have since defended the pair, insisting the embrace was a genuine display of emotional support. A lip reader analyzing the pre-event footage said Erika expressed deep anxiety beforehand, whispering, “I can’t do this,” and that during the hug, Vance told her, “I’m proud of you,” to which she replied heartbreakingly, “It’s not gonna bring him back.”

Despite social media backlash, Erika has chosen to focus on seeking justice for her husband. She publicly advocated for cameras to remain in the courtroom during the trial of his suspected killer, saying she and her family have been under scrutiny since his death, and they deserve transparency as they pursue accountability.
