After Emma’s beloved father dies, her cold stepmother Carla throws away his belongings. Emma secretly saves his ties and sews them into a prom skirt to honor him. Carla mocks her grief and, the morning of prom, destroys the handmade skirt. Heartbroken, Emma calls her best friend’s family, who lovingly help her repair it. Emma wears it proudly to prom, where everyone admires the tribute to her father.
When she returns home, police are arresting Carla for insurance fraud and identity theft using her late husband’s information. Carla is taken away in handcuffs, and soon after, Emma’s grandmother moves in, filling the house with warmth and love again. Karma, it turns out, didn’t miss.
