A video captured rough waves just before a 27-foot Chris-Craft capsized near D.L. Bliss State Park on Lake Tahoe on June 21, 2025. Six people died and two remain missing after the boat overturned amid high winds and 6-8 foot waves. Boat captain Joby Cefalu described the sudden, intense northern winds producing waves worse than 30-foot ocean swells—conditions rarely seen in summer. The search for the missing continued into Sunday morning before being suspended later that day. Authorities have not yet released the names of victims.

Less than a month earlier, 18-year-old Ava Moore died in a fatal kayaking accident on Lake Grapevine, Texas. Moore, a recent U.S. Air Force Academy Prep School graduate, was struck by a personal watercraft whose operator fled the scene. Police identified the suspects and are investigating.

Friends and community mourned Moore’s loss, remembering her as a kind, driven athlete with a bright future in the Air Force. The Academy offered support to her family and squadron, honoring her leadership and spirit amid this tragic accident.
