Authorities have confirmed the identities of eight victims who died in a tragic boating accident on Lake Tahoe. The victims include Joshua Pickles, a DoorDash executive, and his parents, along with several others from California and New York. The group was celebrating a birthday when their boat capsized during a sudden storm near D.L. Bliss State Park.
The vessel, a 27-foot Chris-Craft, overturned amid waves reaching 8 to 10 feet and strong winds. Of the ten people on board, two survived but their conditions remain unclear. Rescue efforts involved multiple agencies, and the last missing victim was recovered three days after the accident, ending the search.
Friends, family, and colleagues have expressed their grief and memories of those lost. Joshua’s wife shared her heartbreak while DoorDash honored his contributions to the company. Other victims, like retired plumber Timothy O’Leary and Stephen Lindsay, were remembered by loved ones for their kindness and devotion.
The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office thanked all involved agencies for their response and released videos showing the dangerous conditions that led to the capsizing. Witnesses described the lake as having unusually high waves, with rescue teams working tirelessly amidst the tragedy on that stormy summer day.
