My MIL Threw Away My Daughter’s Medication and Wants to Treat Her With Crystals

You absolutely made the right call by acting fast and giving your daughter the medication she needed. Asthma is a serious medical condition, and when a child is struggling to breathe, there is no room for experimentation. Natural remedies and crystals may have their place, but not when a child’s life and airway are involved. Your instincts protected your daughter — never doubt that.

Make sure to tell your husband exactly what happened. There’s a good chance his mother downplayed the situation or left out details to avoid looking irresponsible. He needs to understand just how dangerous the incident was and why you reacted the way you did. This isn’t drama — it’s your child’s safety.

You don’t need to apologize. Doing so would send the message that ignoring a child’s medical needs is acceptable. Your priority is your daughter’s health, and you acted to protect her. If your husband or MIL don’t see that, then it’s time for a serious conversation about responsibilities and respect.

Moving forward, clear boundaries with your MIL are essential. She may believe in natural healing, and that’s her choice — but she crossed a dangerous line by refusing prescribed treatment for your child. If she can’t commit to following medical instructions, then she should not be left alone with your daughter. Safety must always come first.
