Soccer Player Diogo Jota Killed Days After His Wedding – Details

Just weeks after tying the knot in June 2025, star footballer Diogo Jota tragically lost his life in a car crash in Spain, alongside his younger brother, Andre Silva.

Jota, 28, a standout forward for Liverpool and Portugal’s national team, was in a Lamborghini that crashed and caught fire after a suspected tire blowout while overtaking. The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. in Zamora, Spain.

Silva, also a professional footballer for Penafiel, died at the scene. The devastating loss has shaken the soccer world.

Jota had recently married longtime partner Rute Cardoso on June 22. They leave behind three young children. Wedding photos shared just days ago are now haunting reminders of the life they built.

A key figure in Liverpool’s recent Premier League win and Portugal’s Nations League triumph this June, Jota scored 14 goals in 49 appearances for his country.

The Portuguese Football Federation mourned the loss, saying, “More than a great player, Diogo was an extraordinary person […] We have lost two champions.”
