A Reddit user shared a story about a store worker who mocked their mom because of her accent. The OP explained that while their mom is Asian-American and has an accent, her English is perfectly clear. Still, some people choose to act confused just to be rude—and this employee was one of them.
During a simple return at the store, the worker kept dodging the mom’s questions and speaking to her like she was a child. After repeatedly ignoring what she was asking, he finally sighed, turned to the OP, and said, “Can you translate what I’m saying to your mom?” as if she couldn’t understand English at all.
The OP snapped into action. They pulled out an earbud, glared at him, and said, “My mom can understand English perfectly fine,” loud enough for nearby customers and even his smirking coworkers to hear. The worker instantly looked embarrassed and suddenly “understood” the mom’s question perfectly.
After answering, he tried to backpedal with excuses, but the OP ignored him and started speaking in their native language while giving him a pointed look. They later explained that no one gets to belittle their mom—and teaching him that lesson felt absolutely worth it.
