Octomom’s octuplets turn 15 – their lives now

Natalie “Octomom” Suleman became world-famous in 2009 after giving birth to the first surviving octuplets, adding to her already large family of six children. Her extraordinary story was made possible through IVF treatments by Dr. Michael Kamrava, who controversially implanted 12 embryos, eight of which resulted in live births. Suleman later claimed she never agreed to such a high number and accused Kamrava of misleading her while medicated. In 2011, his medical license was revoked for gross negligence.

With sudden fame came financial and personal struggles. To support her 14 children, Suleman pursued unconventional jobs, including stripping, adult films, and even celebrity boxing. She also posed in a PETA campaign. Despite these efforts, financial hardship led her to file for bankruptcy in 2012 with over $1 million in debt. In 2014, she faced welfare fraud charges for failing to report $26,000 in income and was sentenced to probation, community service, and repayment.

Eventually, Suleman decided to step away from the spotlight. By 2018, she was working full-time as a counselor while occasionally participating in photoshoots to provide for her family. Public assistance also helped her manage the challenges of raising so many children. She has since emphasized to her kids that leaving fame behind gave them stability and a healthier family life.

Now, her children are thriving teenagers. On January 26, 2024, Suleman proudly celebrated her octuplets’ 15th birthday, posting a heartfelt tribute about how proud she is of their growth into kind, humble young adults. Despite her rocky journey, she has found peace in living a quieter, more grounded life with her family.
