The FBI has released an updated summary of its investigation into the 2024 shooting incident involving former presidential candidate Donald Trump, following growing public concern about a lack of transparency. The event occurred in July 2024, when 20-year-old Thomas Crooks fired a shot that struck Trump in the ear during a campaign rally. Trump’s injury was minor, and he was quickly moved to safety by the Secret Service. Crooks was later located on the roof of a nearby building, where the Secret Service fatally intervened. The incident also resulted in the tragic death of rally attendee Corey Comperatore, which has kept public attention on the case for more than a year.
Some critics argued that too few details had been shared about Crooks’ background and motive, prompting speculation and frustration. Commentators, including media personality Tucker Carlson, questioned why such limited information had surfaced considering the seriousness of the event. Carlson expressed concern that the public still knew very little about Crooks despite the national impact of the incident. These concerns led to accusations that the FBI was withholding important details, which became a central point in the public conversation surrounding the ongoing investigation.
In response to these concerns, the FBI has now clarified several key findings. According to FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino, investigators concluded that Crooks acted alone. The agency also confirmed that no outside individuals or foreign entities were involved in planning, influencing, or assisting the shooter. Officials emphasized that this conclusion was reached after extensive investigative work, which included contributions from more than 400 personnel and over 1,000 interviews across multiple regions. Despite the thorough effort, investigators stated there is still no clear motive behind Crooks’ actions, and no evidence has surfaced indicating a larger conspiracy.
The FBI reiterated that it has reviewed every available lead and shared that the case is now considered “inactive,” though it technically remains pending should new information arise. Officials stressed that there is no ongoing concealment and that the lack of a definitive motive simply reflects the complexity of the situation rather than any attempt to withhold information. With the major findings now public, the agency hopes the update provides clarity and addresses concerns about transparency while acknowledging the tragedy of the incident and the lives affected by it.
