I Refuse to Stop Swimming Even Though Our Neighbor Hates It—Our Rules, Our Way

Robert and his partner had enjoyed their backyard pool for years when new neighbors moved in next door. Despite their attempts to welcome the family, the neighbors kept their distance. Then, unexpectedly, the father demanded they stop using their own pool, calling it “immodest,” which Robert dismissed as unreasonable.

The next day, Robert noticed the neighbors’ son watching them from the balcony, holding a hidden note that read, “Can I come swim with you?” The boy admitted he loved swimming and dreamed of becoming an athlete, but his dad refused to support him or get a home with a pool. Wanting to encourage the boy, Robert invited him to swim anytime.

This gesture quickly angered the father, who accused Robert of feeding his son unrealistic dreams. Robert defended his choice, reminding him that it was their property and they were free to use their pool and welcome guests as they wished. The father left furious, leaving Robert unsure whether he handled the situation correctly.

Robert reached out for advice, torn between helping the boy and keeping peace with the neighbor. While opinions vary, the core conflict remains: balancing compassion for a child’s passion with respecting boundaries and avoiding unnecessary disputes with difficult neighbors.
