My DIL’s Son Isn’t Allowed in My House Anymore, Now I’m Suddenly a Villain

After a costly renovation, I told my daughter-in-law that her 5-year-old son could no longer come to my house because I wanted to keep everything in order. She didn’t argue, but the next day my son called with surprising news: my DIL is pregnant, and because I banned her son, I also wouldn’t be allowed to have my future grandchild in my home. Hearing that shocked me and made me feel judged, manipulated, and suddenly cast as the villain.

Now I’m torn. I value my home and the effort I put into renovating it, but I also don’t want to send the message that my stepson—or future grandchild—is unwelcome. I’m left wondering whether I crossed a line by putting my house rules above a child’s comfort, and whether this decision is damaging my relationship with my family.
