My Husband’s Coworker Is Starting to Cross Boundaries, and It’s Making Me Uneasy

Emma, 27, had been married to her husband for three years when he started a new role at work. Soon, she noticed troubling behavior from his younger female colleague, who called him her “work husband,” hugged him tightly, and even cooked meals for him. Emma’s own thoughtful lunches were returned uneaten because he didn’t want to “offend” the coworker, which left her hurt and furious.

When Emma stopped preparing his lunches in protest, her husband dismissed her feelings, calling her “petty.” But others pointed out the imbalance: he cared more about sparing his coworker’s feelings than honoring his wife’s efforts. To Emma, the hugs, food, and nicknames weren’t innocent—they were blatant boundary-crossing.

Online, many agreed with Emma, noting the coworker’s behavior was disrespectful and her husband’s acceptance even more so. Some warned that this bordered on an emotional affair and could create damaging office gossip. Others reminded Emma that love and respect are shown through actions, and her efforts at home shouldn’t be disregarded so easily.

Ultimately, the situation highlighted a deeper issue in their marriage: communication and boundaries. Emma’s husband may see the interactions as harmless, but his refusal to prioritize her feelings undermines their partnership. As many advised, it’s up to him to draw the line at work and protect his marriage—because respect at home should always come before appearances in the office.
