On July 28, 2025, a mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan left four people dead, including an off-duty NYPD officer. The gunman, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura of Las Vegas, later died of a self-inflicted wound. Authorities confirmed he acted alone, though his motive remains unclear.
Victims included Officer Didarul Islam, a married father of two with another child on the way. Two men and a woman also died; one may have worked in accounting for a company in the building. Another man remains in critical condition.
Tamura, who held a concealed carry permit and had mental health issues, entered the building alone and spared at least one person. NYPD and federal agents responded swiftly, clearing the building and confirming no ongoing threat.
Mayor Eric Adams and other officials paid tribute to the victims, with widespread praise for the NYPD’s quick response. KPMG, one of the firms in the building, issued condolences.
Separate Reno Shooting Leaves Three Dead
Earlier that morning, a separate mass shooting occurred outside the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada. A gunman opened fire, killing three and injuring six others, including a police officer. He was taken into custody after a shootout and remains hospitalized.
Reno Police Chief Kathryn Nance credited officers with preventing further tragedy. The motive remains unknown, and there’s no known connection between the shooter and victims. The Grand Sierra Resort remains open but with restricted access to parts of its parking area.
