Ahmed al Ahmed, the 43-year-old father of two who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach gunmen, is recovering in hospital after being shot in the arm and hand and may face losing his arm. Speaking from his hospital bed, Ahmed thanked God and asked people to pray, while his parents said he remains in good spirits despite his injuries.
His father explained that Ahmed had only gone out for coffee when he saw armed attackers and instinctively acted to protect others, drawing on his background in police and security forces. Both parents called him a hero, saying he was driven by conscience when he saw people injured and dying, and leaders across Australia have praised his courage for saving lives.
