A 23-year-old woman is warning others after chronic cannabis use left her dangerously ill. After using a weed pen almost daily since age 16, she developed cannabis hyperemesis syndrome (CHS)—a condition marked by relentless vomiting, extreme stomach pain, and episodes so severe ER staff call it “scromiting.”
Her symptoms began in high school with nonstop vomiting, repeated ER visits, and rapid weight loss. Doctors struggled to diagnose her until she was hospitalized at just 87 pounds and placed on a feeding tube. The turning point came when she stopped using cannabis—her symptoms eased, confirming the cause, she told The New York Post. Though she later faced Crohn’s disease and a brief relapse, quitting cannabis again led to recovery. Now sober for two years, she shares her story to raise awareness: while cannabis is widely used, CHS is real, often misdiagnosed, and can be debilitating—or worse—without stopping use.
