If you urinate in the shower, be careful, you should know that…

Urinating in the shower might seem harmless, but it’s worth knowing the potential risks—especially for women. One of the main concerns is cystitis, a common bacterial infection of the urinary system. It affects roughly 20% of women at least once in their lifetime.

Cystitis occurs when bacteria enter the urethra and travel into the bladder. Because women have a shorter urethra than men, the bacteria have a shorter distance to travel, making infections more likely. This anatomical difference is one reason why women are more prone to urinary tract infections (UTIs) in general. Proper hygiene plays a crucial role in preventing them.

Although urine is typically sterile, urinating in a moist environment like the shower can sometimes increase bacterial spread if hygiene isn’t carefully maintained. Rinsing thoroughly and avoiding frequent shower urination may reduce the risk. Also, ensure that the shower floor is regularly cleaned to avoid bacterial buildup.

While not everyone who urinates in the shower will experience health issues, women in particular should stay cautious. Small habits can have long-term effects on urinary health.
