Teen Found Guilty of Killing 15-Year-Old Harvey Willgoose During Lunchtime

A 15-year-old boy has been found guilty of murdering fellow student Harvey Willgoose, who was stabbed twice in the chest outside his school cafeteria in February. The attacker, also 15, brought a 13cm hunting knife onto campus. Prosecutors said he had an obsession with weapons, while his defense claimed years of bullying led to the attack. The jury convicted him after 14 hours of deliberation; sentencing is set for October.

Harvey’s sister Sophie described him as warm, funny, and a unifying presence. His mother, Caroline, recalled their final conversation that morning — Harvey telling her he was going to school on his own and asking if she was proud. She now campaigns for knife arches in schools and has launched “Harvey’s Hub,” a safe youth club to give teens a place to connect.

Police urged parents to talk to their children about knife crime, warning of its devastating consequences. Harvey’s parents believe the school failed to act on earlier incidents involving the defendant and hope their son’s story will drive change.

Harvey’s father, Mark, said there can never be true justice but vowed to ensure his son’s death was not in vain. The family remains committed to raising awareness and creating a safer future in Harvey’s memory.
