Patrick Swayze’s brother Sean dies at 63

Sean Swayze, the younger brother of late Hollywood icon Patrick Swayze, has died at the age of 63, adding another chapter of loss to a family long marked by tragedy. His death was confirmed by his son, Jesse Swayze, who stated that Sean passed away in Los Angeles on December 15. According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, the cause was an acute upper gastrointestinal bleed and severe metabolic acidosis resulting from cirrhosis of the liver. Sean is survived by his children—Cassie, Kyle, and Jesse—who now carry forward his memory. In the days following his passing, loved ones shared heartfelt tributes. His cousin Rachel Leon remembered him as “always fun and full of life,” posting a photo of Sean proudly wearing a Dirty Dancing–themed shirt. Though he never achieved the same fame as his brother, Sean worked steadily as a character actor and behind-the-scenes crew member, appearing in films such as Letters from a Killer, and remained deeply connected to the family’s creative legacy.

Sean’s death comes more than 16 years after Patrick Swayze died in 2009 at age 57 following a highly public battle with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Patrick, best known for Dirty Dancing, Ghost, and Road House, was married to writer and dancer Lisa Niemi and remains a beloved figure in film history. The Swayze family’s story is one of both talent and profound heartbreak. Sean and Patrick are survived by siblings Don Swayze and Bambi Swayze, while other family members were lost far too soon. Though Sean lived largely outside the spotlight, his life was deeply intertwined with his family’s legacy. His passing serves as a quiet reminder that behind fame and success often lies a human story shaped by resilience, love, and enduring loss.
