An Oklahoma mother who killed five people, including two of her own children, in a firetruck collision while she was high on drugs was sentenced to life behind bars.Keiosha Rucker, 30, pleaded no contest to manslaughter and DUI charges for the deadly February 2024 crash that also left her paralyzed and in a wheelchair.Rucker was driving the vehicle with her one-year-old son and five-year-old daughter, as well as 23-year-old Tamia Ray, four-year-old Makiya’Lynn Chatmon and an unidentified pregnant 26-year-old woman when the crash occurred, Fox 23 reported.
Tulsa police said Rucker was under the influence of cocaine and marijuana when she failed to yield to a firetruck responding fire with its lights and sirens on.During her sentencing hearing on Friday, the driver of the firetruck testified that Rucker did not move out of the way, so he attempted to pass by using open oncoming lanes, News on 6 reported.Rucker then turned in front of the firetruck, causing the crash, killing her children, Ray, Chatmon and the 26-year-old’s unborn baby, prosecutors said. While Rucker and the 26-year-old survived, court records indicate she was left partially paralyzed from the crash and cannot move the right side of her body.Police found cocaine and marijuana in her car, and testing indicated that the drugs had been used within 12 hours of the crash.
