A United Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on Monday morning after experiencing a reported engine issue shortly after takeoff. Flight UA 2127 had departed around 10:15 a.m. from Terminal 7 en route to Newark Liberty International Airport when smoke was reported inside the aircraft. According to flight tracking data, the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner circled back toward Los Angeles, landing safely at approximately 11:20 a.m. The Los Angeles Fire Department received reports of the engine problem around 11:05 a.m. and responded to the runway as a precaution. After touchdown, emergency evacuation slides were deployed to allow passengers to exit the aircraft quickly.
Video footage captured passengers sliding down the inflatable chutes while emergency crews surrounded the plane to assist and manage the situation. Fire trucks were positioned nearby as smoke was seen coming from the aircraft. Officials confirmed that all 268 passengers and 12 crew members were safely evacuated. Reports indicate that only one passenger sustained a minor finger injury. In a statement, United Airlines confirmed the aircraft returned to Los Angeles to address an engine-related issue and that customers were transported back to the terminal by bus. The airline added that it is working to arrange onward travel for passengers, though updated flight details have not yet been announced.
