Heartbreaking details continue to emerge following the tragic shooting outside Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden on Austin’s 6th Street in the early hours of March 1, 2026. Authorities confirmed that among those who lost their lives were 19-year-old Ryder Harrington, a Texas Tech University student remembered by loved ones as a devoted brother and loyal friend; 21-year-old Savitha Shan, an accomplished University of Texas student pursuing dual majors in management information systems and economics; and 30-year-old Jorge Pederson, an amateur MMA fighter known in the ring as “Trap Jorge,” admired for his discipline and warmth. According to the Austin Police Department, gunfire erupted around 2 a.m. as crowds were leaving the busy nightlife area. Officers confronted the suspect within minutes. Two victims and the suspect were pronounced deceased at the scene, while numerous others were transported to nearby hospitals, several in critical condition.
