Father and Daughter Found Deceased after FB Marketplace Meetup

What began as a simple errand ended in tragedy when a father and his 19-year-old daughter were found dead on a quiet road in Mississippi. Authorities say Victor Gonzalez and his daughter Serenity Gonzalez were discovered early Sunday morning inside a vehicle on River Road near Sardis in Panola County. Deputies responded around 7 a.m. after a passerby called 911, believing they had come across a single-vehicle crash. Instead, investigators found the pair suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Officials believe the killings may have taken place sometime between February 28 and March 1, 2026. The remote gravel road where the vehicle was located is rarely traveled, according to neighbors, making it a place few people would stumble upon unless they were familiar with the area. For the victims’ family, the shocking discovery has left more questions than answers. Victor’s son, Jessie Waterman, described the father and daughter as hardworking electricians who often worked together on projects around the Memphis area.

Family members say the pair had planned a routine evening after finishing work. According to relatives, they intended to get food and then meet someone to purchase a PlayStation 5 through Facebook Marketplace. Investigators have not confirmed whether the planned purchase is connected to the shooting, but the family fears the meeting may have been a setup. Jessie told reporters that investigators mentioned tire tracks at the scene suggesting the victims may have tried to flee before the shooting occurred. Authorities have not released details about potential suspects, and the case remains under active investigation. Meanwhile, a separate case in Missouri has highlighted similar concerns surrounding online marketplace transactions. In that incident, a Marine Corps veteran named Michael Ryan Burke was fatally shot during a suspected robbery connected to a phone sale arranged online. Police later arrested multiple suspects linked to the crime. As both investigations continue, authorities are urging the public to use caution when meeting strangers for online sales, emphasizing the importance of safe locations and awareness when arranging such exchanges.
