Potato chips recalled in six states over undeclared deadly ingredient

Health officials have issued a warning about certain bags of Miss Vickie’s Spicy Dill Pickle Potato Chips that are being voluntarily recalled due to the possible presence of an undeclared allergen. According to information shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, some 8-ounce bags of the product may contain jalapeño-flavored chips that include milk, which is not listed on the package label. This labeling issue could pose a health risk to individuals with milk allergies or severe sensitivities. Reactions to milk allergens can range from mild symptoms, such as hives or swelling, to more serious complications like breathing difficulties. In rare cases, severe allergic reactions can occur and require immediate medical attention. The affected products may have been distributed beginning January 15 through various grocery stores, convenience stores, drug stores, and digital retailers in several states including Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. Frito-Lay reported that the issue was discovered after a customer contacted the company, prompting the recall as a precaution.

The recall applies specifically to 8-ounce bags with the UPC code 0 28400 761772 printed on the package and “guaranteed fresh” dates of April 21, 2026 along with manufacturing codes 38U301414 or 48U101514. No other sizes or varieties of Miss Vickie’s chips are included in the recall, and variety packs are not affected. At this time, the FDA has not received reports of allergic reactions linked to the product, but officials are urging consumers with milk allergies to avoid eating the chips and discard them immediately if they have purchased them. Milk allergies affect millions of Americans and can trigger symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, swelling of the face or throat, and digestive distress. In severe situations, an allergic reaction known as anaphylaxis may occur and requires urgent treatment with medication such as epinephrine. Consumers who do not have a dairy allergy can safely consume the product, but those with sensitivities are advised to check packaging details carefully and follow the recall guidance provided by health authorities.
