Ten-year-old Emma’s life changed when she started at a new school and met her teacher, Ms. Sophia — who looked exactly like her late mom. Shocked, Emma told her dad, Jason, who went pale and agreed to meet Sophia.

When they saw each other, Sophia dropped her mug and whispered Jason’s name. Emma hid and overheard a heated conversation: Sophia wasn’t her biological mother. Emma’s real mom was Sophia’s best friend, who died after giving birth. Jason had lied, using Sophia’s photo so Emma would have someone to look up to.

Heartbroken, Emma confronted them and ran off. Sophia later found her and explained how she’d left years ago out of anger, but now wanted to know Emma. Slowly, Emma began bonding with Sophia, learning about her real mom and even discovering they shared the same laugh.

Though Emma was upset with Jason, she saw how hard he tried to make amends. Eventually, Sophia revealed she’d been offered a teaching job in New York and suggested they all move together.
