A probe is underway into the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, 31, founder of Turning Point USA (TPUSA), during a speaking event at Utah Valley University (UVU) on September 10, 2025. Witnesses reported a single shot fired from a nearby building. Kirk was rushed away by security but later died in the hospital.

Authorities initially detained a suspect but released them after questioning. The FBI confirmed the investigation remains active. Experts say the precision of the single shot suggests the attacker was highly skilled, possibly complicating the investigation.

Eyewitnesses described chaos and confusion, with many initially mistaking the gunshot for part of the event. U.S. President Donald Trump condemned the assassination, calling Kirk a “martyr” and ordered flags at half-staff through September 14. Vice President JD Vance also offered condolences.

The attack came just two weeks after a Minneapolis church shooting on August 27, where gunfire during a student Mass killed two children and injured 17 others. The shooter, Robin Westman, left behind a disturbing manifesto revealing years of inner turmoil before the attack.
